Server hack
15th September 2009
Those of you who visited the site yesterday may have seen a browser warning about malware on the site. This was due to a rather annoying server hack. Obviously the server is now clean and I've fixed the vulnerability which seemed to stem from some very old projects on this same server.
Sorry for the inconvenience! Hopefully it won't happen again.
Version 1.4 released
17th April 2008
Several new features for all variations of 1 Bit – the bookmarklet, WordPress plugin and custom installs.
1 Bit now features a visible buffering state along with improved icons, positioning options (before or after the MP3 link), pausing and support for Google Analytics. Note that this latest version requires Flash Player version 9.
Version 1.3 and bookmarklet
28th December 2007
Adds automatic setting of the icon color to match links on the page through getStyle(). Taking advantage of this feature is a new bookmarklet version of 1 Bit.
Note that the code for applying 1 Bit has changed – those of you using a custom install will need to alter this when you upgrade. See the documentation and example page included in the download.
Important fix for IE
10th June 2007
Unfortunately the previous release didn't work with Internet Explorer – oops! This update should fix that. You can also expect slightly more thorough testing next time.
Introduction
1 Bit Audio Player is a very simple and lightweight Adobe Flash MP3 player with automatic JavaScript insertion. It's main purpose is to act as a quick in-page preview for audio files you link to from your website or blog.
The player can be easily installed as a WordPress plugin or used stand-alone in any website. Small audio players will than automatically appear next to any MP3s you link to.
There's also a bookmarklet version of 1 Bit available that can be used to apply 1 Bit to any web page from your browser.
More Information
1 Bit uses its own unobtrusive JavaScript and SWFObject 1.5 to embed Flash players into the page. You can even specify which links are affected through CSS selectors. The code generated is, of course, valid HTML 4.0.1 / XHTML 1.0 and the user won't see any 'click to activate' messages. Since version 1.4, 1 Bit now requires Flash Player 9.
Small in dimensions and filesize, 1 Bit functions well down to sizes of 8x8 pixels and is about 15KB including the required JavaScript.
